Abstract:

actually a memoir written in the late 1920s. Includes accounts of the following: her mother's passage to California across the Isthmus of Panama in 1851 and early days in San Francisco; the family's European tour of 1864; the author's early married life in the Bay Area and subsequent move to Tacoma, Washington; the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906; residence in Berkeley Calif. in her later years.
Written from Rome, 13 March 1864. One is from Grace (age 11), and the other from her mother, Mary Nowlin Roberts, to her grandmother, Eliza Armstrong Nowlin. Contain accounts of their trip from Paris to Rome via Lyons, Geneva, Turin, Genoa and Naples.

Daughter of forty-niner, Martin Richard Roberts (of the Pacific Mail Steamship Co.), and sister of the actor, Theodore Roberts. Grace Moore died in San Francisco on June 20, 1944.
